Let’s Talk about Google’s Core Web Vitals!
why are they useful and why should you keep them in mind?
Is this just another scare tactic by Google that can improve us all and get all upset for a few months?
I do not believe it is. Yes, it became a serious ranking factor in the coming years – and for a good reason.
These are basically core web Vitals. There is a page experience metric from Google to determine what type of experience visitors receive when visiting your page.
There have been many things about the Google Core Web Vital Matrix. What we all need. The value of Core Web Vitals metrics is now more important than ever so that we can easily understand it. Google has now shown with this disclosure that it will be considered a good ranking signal that is very important and complete and useful, which will be integrated into its latest algorithms.
Tools for measuring core web vitals
There are some tools that can help us understand the core web vitals easily.
Google Search Console (you can find it under Enhancement-> Core Web Vital)
- Page speed insights
- Lighthouse
- Web Page Test
- Chrome Dev Tools (which can be achieved by first opening a web page and then pressing Control + Shift + C (Windows) or Command + Option + C (Mac)).
- Chrome User Experience Report
Largest Concertful Paint (LCP)
Indicates the time taken to render the largest visible element in the LCP server’s viewport. This visual element can be an image or a text block.
Mainly four factors that determine/influence your LCP
- Render Blocking JavaScript (JS) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
- Slow response time server
- Processing time load time
- Client-side rendering
First Input Delay (FID)
The FID indicates the time delay that occurs when a user is online on a web page and when the browser in real-time actually processes the user’s request. And with that, it takes time for the page to react to the particular action.
There are some ways that can help you reduce the FID:
- Reduce JavaScript execution time
- Make the main thread work at least
Reduce the impact of third-party code
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)
CLS occurs when elements of a web page unexpectedly shift from one location to another when the page is loaded. These elements are the ones that shift due to some fonts, images, videos, buttons, or any other style that cannot load quickly. This greatly impedes the user experience.
Google believes CLS may be overcrowded due to the following reasons
- Photo/fuse due to web fonts
- Dimension missing without an image in use
- Dynamic content input
- Using Embed and Frame without dimensions
